Dosa making is an art which needs simple but specific utensils, cast iron Tawa (also known as griddle) is one of them. This extra heavy base flat bottom cast iron tawa is specially suitable for making Dosa or pancakes. Heavy cast iron base spreads heat evenly, making Dosa golden brown evenly and excellently crispy. This Cast iron tawa can also be well used for making Indian flat breads like roti, chapati, naan and paratha.

Being flat bottom and heavy cast iron base, this tawa is also suitable for induction, gas and hotplate hobs

Cast iron utensils naturally develop spots of rusts when not in regular use, this is normal. These utensils would need to be cleaned of such rust and seasoned before using them first time, per the method below. After this first time seasoning, just wash them with mild soap, when ever there appears rust spots.

This tawa must be prepared and seasoned before the first use. 

To prepare Cast iron tawa for the first use:

  1. Wash it with warm soapy water and dry it.
  2. Put this tawa on the stove at hight or in the oven at 250C for few minutes.
  3. Let it cool down a little. Take a cloth soaked in cooking oil and wipe it over the inside surface of the pan.
  4. If there appear any black parts peeling away - it's normal, as the manufacturers put a protective layer for safe transport.
  5. Heat the tawa pan again and let the oil burn out. Repeat this process 2-5 times. Be careful while handling hot surface.
  6. Tawa is made with "cast" iron therefore an uneven, some what discoloured spots of rust and rustic surface is normal and needs to be prepared per the instructions above before using. 

Do not use abrasive cleaner for cleaning the cast iron utensils. Cast iron tawa is not suitable for Dish-Washer/
